A major issue that the ALM has been pursuing for a long time is the plot near the SRA building that has been lying vacant and where a garden has been promised. Well, since the garden has not been developed, the plot is still being used as parking spot. Time and again, we have called up the ward and the traffic police to deal with the situation. It is a long fight but we are determined to make the area free of cars, which we have succeeded in doing, on several occasions. The second thing that we have been focusing on is to keep the entire neighbourhood clean and beautify it as well. For this, we have been conducting cleanliness drives—so far, we have conducted two drives. We are also trying to get the masses involved. The first drive happened in January, the second in April, while the third is scheduled for May 24. These drives would be conducted periodically as the neighbourhood is huge comprising 53 societies—its upkeep is our goal. The drives have been supported by residents as well as officials of the G/North ward. In fact, even children had participated in the drives, which boosted everyone’s morale. We planted large potted plants on several footpaths on World Environment Day, which have added to the aesthetic appeal of the area.
