Trailer driver mows down man on Eastern Express Highway

The Kanjurmarg police arrested a trailer driver on Friday for allegedly mowing down a 36-year-old biker on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Sawant.

According to the police, the incident took place around 5:30 pm on Eastern Express Highway (EEH) when Sawant was on his Activa scooter and was heading towards Kanjurmarg where he lives. The police said the truck driver, who was driving rashly, collided into Sawant's scooter and mowed him down.

The locals immediately informed the police and rushed Sawant to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The body was later sent for postmortem. Sawant had succumbed due to his head injuries.

"We have handed the body to his family members after the postmortem and registered a case against the trailer driver for rash driving and causing death due to negligence. The driver has been arrested and his trailer has been seized," said a police officer of Kanjurmarg police station.
