Thanks to local MLC, HSC students in for a smooth ride till exam centres

Parts of the city are becoming increasingly difficult to navigate via road, owing to congestion, repair work and digging up of roads. In particular, students giving their board exams are finding it most difficult to reach their centres on time. However, HSC exam takers in the Western suburbs are breathing easy, for a member of the legislative council has come to their rescue, by making autorickshaws available free of cost.

Who is the MLC and in what areas will students be ferried?
From Monday, Shiv Sena MLC Anil Parab made the three wheelers available from Bandra to Jogeshwari for students appearing for their HSC exams, free of cost, till their exam centres.
The auto facilities have been made by the Maharashtra Rickshaw Chalak Sena Union. Through this, around 200 rickshaws are being made available, wherein 900-1,000 students are being benefited.

How can a student avail of the facility?
Looking at the difficulty students face during this period in reaching their exam centre, the MLC has informed all his local party workers to make arrangements for the vehicles.
Students just need to show their hall tickets to the auto driver, who will then ferry them for free, to their exam centres.

Sairaj Warkar, an HSC student from Andheri, has his exam centre is at Jogeshwari. He said: "Our local corporator made the arrangement for us, without which it would have been extremely difficult to get a rickshaw from my locality."

Echoing Warkar's sentiments, Hanumanta Natekar, whose exam centre is at Versova said: "We are reaching our centres without any stress. Else, it would have been quite a task to reach our centres, because most rickshaw drivers refuse to ferry passengers owing to heavy traffic on link road."

The Irla resident added: "I think such facilities should be started across the city, and not just from Bandra to Jogeshwari."

MLCspeak
MLC Parab, who is also the president of Maharashtra Rickshaw Chalak Sena, said: "I have observed how the students struggle to get road transport during their board exams. So, we decided to start this facility to help students reach their centres on time." Parab also said that the facility would be extended to students of the SSC board, whose exams begin on March 3.

Concerns voiced by students on the board's helpline
As per board officials, the calls received on the helpline number were lesser on Tuesday, as compared to the previous two exam papers. On Tuesday, the helpline received around 70 calls from both, students and parents. Most of the calls were regarding common subjects and their topics. The main concerns centred on complaints that the board doesn't allow students to use writing pads during the exam. This, students said, made writing the paper difficult. Additionally, the board has allowed students to bring their own log books and use them, after being verified by the supervisor.
