Thane's marriage registration office shut on Valentine's Day

No other news could put more of a damper on the most romantic day of the year. If you live in Thane and are planning to get hitched on Valentine's Day, you will have to change your dates because the marriage registration office will be shut this February 14th.

The marriage registrar office in Thane remains shut on every 2nd and 4th Saturday. Unfortunately, this year, V-Day too falls on a 2nd Saturday, with couples having no other option but to choose another date.

Bharat Jadhav, officer-in-charge (marriage), said, "We are not working on Valentine's Day. Many couples had come to the office to book the date. So far, 13 couples have registered to get married on 15th February."

Many couples were disappointed by the news. Avik Patel and Vidyuta Mali said, "We had planned in advance and made preparations that we will get married on 14th February. We were quite upset on hearing the news. We have shifted the date to the 15th." The same situation had taken place in 2010.

"I wanted make the day special for Vidyuta but it seems that fate has different plans," said Avik.

While couples will lose out on a Valentine's Day wedding, the office too will lose out on the additional revenue it usually generates on this day.
