Teachers from the Teachers Democratic Front (TDF) protested at Azad Maidan on Monday morning for different demands from the teachers community.

While several of their demands were pointed out in a letter they wrote to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, some of them included to stop introducing government resolutions against the teachers community. They demanded the withdrawal of the government resolution of promotion criteria of teachers recently issued, let the old pension scheme continue for all the teachers, teachers who became surplus in day school should be reinstated in day school only and many such demands were there in the list of demands.

Rajesh Pandya, vice president, TDF, said, "The corrupt education officers from the education department should be transferred outside Mumbai and strict action should also be taken against them."

Echoing Pandya's sentiments, another teacher, Janardan Jangle, said, "We have given the names of schools in the letter where a lot of corruption is happening and wrong with teachers. We demand that the government appoint a person from the government department to these schools and take away the powers from the principals and management of those schools. As the education minister was not present in Mantralaya, we handed over the letter to Ravindra Waikar, Minister of State, Higher and Technical Education."

Not just this but the teachers from Maharashtra State (Permanent) Unaided School Kruti Samiti, Mumbai Konkan have also decided to call an indefinite strike across the state from November 13. The Samiti has requested all teachers from different schools to participate in the protest as well. The Samiti has decided to demonstrate the protest in front of the seven deputy directors of school education offices in state.
