Rajan Vichare, Sena's candidate from Thane who was in Ghansoli on Tuesday night, trained guns at present MP Sanjeev Naik, saying, "Sanjeev Naik did more of a corporator's job as a member of parliament (MP)."

Vichare, while addressing Sena workers, said, Naik made several promises to voters ahead of the last elections, included turning Thane station into a world class station. However, the same issues continue to persist at the station. MP Naik undertook works like garden repairs or library repairs that could have been done by any corporator."

The Sena leader also drew attention of the crowd to stations in Navi Mumbai, which according to him, lacked basic facilities and very little had been done to improve conditions there. "MP Naik donated Rs65 lakh for Nerul's Wonders Park whereas Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) spent Rs 32 lakh on developing this garden. Despite this, a board mentions that this garden has been developed using MP's funds.

NCP tried to do something similar in Thane, where the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) spent Rs125 crore and MP funds of Rs 2 crore was used and there was a ploy to give credit to MP Naik for using funds to develop the entire garden. Thanekars had opposed this," said Vichare.

Vichare said, "As a member of parliament, Sanjeev Naik laid more emphasis on gutter, water and meter works that mainly fall under the purview of any civic body." The Sena candidate also trained guns at Thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik, who he claimed carried out development for own benefits. "The C-bridge near White House in Koparkhairane was constructed spending Rs42 lakh, but hardly 42 vehicles move along this road today. The road was constructed only for the convenience of the guardian minister," said Vichare.

He also punched holes in the one-time planning model concept floated by guardian minister Naik. He questioned, "Why does a city that is merely 20 years old need planning now. Does this mean Cidco has failed in its planning?"

Meanwhile, an NCP leader said, "People know what work Sanjeev Naik has done in the last 5 years. The efforts he took to improve conditions at railway stations are known to everyone. He has also worked to develop infrastructure in Thane region and has held several meetings with MMRDA officials."
