Many important posts in state have been lying vacant for yrs, thanks to government lethargy.
When Prithviraj Chavan became chief minister of Maharashtra, he promised to talk less and work more.
Looks he is doing lesser of both. Key committees are running headless and the chief minister is silent about it.
Though the respective departments have moved the files to Chavan, he has been sitting on them for the last several years no reasons assigned.
Chief Secretary Rahul Bantia, however, told dna the posts are lying vacant for want of right people.
Bantia was the only one to come to the government’s aid.
All others dna spoke to officials as well as ministers from Chavan’s own cabinet were critical of the CM.
Minister of housing Sachin Ahir was the first. He said he had requested Chavan to fill up the Mhada chairman’s post urgently.
“But, so far, nothing has been done. Now, we have got administrative officers on Mhada board... I have written to the chief minister, but what more can I do? The decision can be taken by the chief minister alone,” he said.
Senior officials in the highrise committee, which approves residential and commercial projects, said they had informed the chief minister three months ago that the committee’s tenure will end on September 2 (yesterday).
“Monday was the last day. Now, there is no clarity on what to do next. We don’t understand why the CM sits on these files for so long. Highrise is a crucial committee that approves maximum residential projects. No committee means no development,” the officials said.
Vidya Chavan, MLC and president of the NCP’s women’s wing, said, “The attacks on women are increasing day by day. Still, the CM does not have time to fill the chairman’s post of the women’s commission.
“This post has been vacant since August 2008. This is not the Prime Minister’s post that they have to take Delhi’s (high command) approval,” she said.
Amin Patil, Congress MLA and chairman of Maulana Azad Trust, said, the Haj committee and Wakf board heads are prominent. “The Haj board post has been vacant, so the state does not have any representation in the centre on the Haj board. Pilgrims face a lot of problems. They don’t have the point person to express their grievances. The government should take this up seriously by filling these posts on an urgent basis,” he said.
RTI activist Anil Galgail said, “In Mhada, many developmental works are held up. The chief minister should act promptly to fill the vacancies,” he said.
