Latecomers will face the music, as the attendance is linked to their salaries.
In a bid to discipline latecomers at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the civic body installed hand geometry machines for attendance starting Monday. More importantly, the attendance is linked to the salary of the employees.
“There had been complaints regarding employees reporting late to work or leaving early. Last year, mayor Sagar Naik conducted a surprise check, wherein he took the latecomers to task,” said an officialfrom the civic body.
NMMC had a biometric attendance system in place, but since it wasn’t linked to the salaries, most employees continued to give it a go-by and signed in the attendance register despite coming in late. However, after Abasaheb Jarhad took over as the municipal commissioner, he decided to introduce hand geometry attendance system, which will be linked to the salaries of the NMMC staff.
“Thanks to the new system, employees reporting late or not coming to office, will have to face music at the end of the month, because their salaries will be deducted if their attendance is irregular,” said the official.
He added, “The attendance system will be applicable to all the employees irrespective of their grade. Even municipal commissioner Jarhad is marking his attendance through the machines.”
The administration has installed two such machines at the head office.
Those coming to the civic body’s office for some or the other work are happy with this decision. “I hope this system works out well as officials will be available for common man and senior citizens like me, who come here for some or the other work,” said Bapu Mane, a resident of Belapur.
Meanwhile, the decision has enthused employees, who are regular at their work.
