As many as 107 BMS students from Alkesh Dinesh Modi Institue of Management were put in a fix when they did not receive their roll numbers before their fifth semester exams.

The college, which is located inside the Kalina campus of Mumbai University (MU), had not processed the enrollment papers of these students, leading to MU's inability to generate their personal registration numbers.

While 84 students received their hall pass at the beginning of their exam, the other 23 received it during the course of the paper.

Mahesh Samant, secretary (Mumbai region), United Human Rights Federation, said, "If there was an issue with enrollment papers, they had 2 years to sort it out. To keep students waiting till the last minute, that too before an exam, only adds to their stress. Clearly, the administration department has been negligent in their duties, resulting in such a chaotic situation."

On the condition of anonymity, an aggrieved student informed, "The varsity assured us that we would be allowed to write the exams. They told us that our roll numbers would be provided before our exams but some students got them during the exam. Thankfully I got mine when I entered the exam hall."

Dinesh Bhonde, controller of university exams, said, "The problem has been resolved. Colleges should be more careful when handling the admission process."

The issue was brought to light by the Shiv Sena Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena, which had earlier been defunct for a long time. The recent Shiv Sena – BJP alliance break up led to the revival of this wing of the party by Aditya Thackeray. Earlier, such issues would be covered by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the BJP.
