Even as the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) smarts after the arrest of former Nashik MP and ex-deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal's nephew Sameer Bhujbal, water resources minister Girish Mahajan has indicated that more trouble may be in store for the party.

Mahajan said former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and former water resources minister Sunil Tatkare, who is now the NCP's state unit chief, could be named in the charge-sheet to be filed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The bureau is conducting an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in works on dams, which have been undertaken by the Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC).

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Mahajan said an inquiry by the ACB had been ordered into alleged irregularities in 12 irrigation projects in the Konkan. The inquiries regarding the Kalu, Balganga and Kondane dams are in the final stage, he added, stating that the chargesheet would be filed in around a month's time. "...the chargesheet will be filed and action will be taken against those who are in the wrong," Mahajan stressed.

Mahajan added that while the first information report (FIR) filed by the agency naming officials and contractors was a broad one, the charge-sheet to be filed by ACB could see more people, including Ajit Pawar and Tatkare, being named. The investigations had seen more irregularities coming to light involving them, he claimed.

The ACB had summoned Pawar and Tatkare, who was Pawar's successor in the water resources department, for an inquiry in the alleged irregularities in awarding and constructing irrigation projects.
