The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Monday said that it has issued a notice to J Kumar Infraprojects levying a fine of Rs 5 lakh following an accident on Metro construction site of Andheri East-Dahisar East Metro-7 corridor a week ago.

MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kawathkar confirmed that a notice has been issued to the firm. “We have issued notice to J Kumar Infraprojects levying a fine of Rs 5 lakh for an accident at a Metro-VII construction site,” said Kawathkar.

A week ago, a bunch of iron rods had come down tilting towards the ground near Aarey Colony on the Western Express Highway (WEH). However, this accident did not cause any injuries, but MMRDA had issued a show-cause notice to J Kumar Infraprojects and the general consultant M/s Aica Consortium.

UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, told DNA: “We will definitely take action against contractor J Kumar Infraprojects and have decided to levy a fine for the accident.”

MMRDA had claimed that the accident took place due to a crane hitting the iron rods while work was in progress on a pier. According to an MMRDA official, “Following the accident, the driver who was behind the crane will be given lighter activities to do at the Metro construction site.”
