The MRA Marg police on Friday arrested a youth for allegedly stalking his former 18-year-old girlfriend. Since the accused had got into alcoholism and violence, the victim had broken ties with him. Recently, the accused allegedly threatened to throw acid on her, police said.

The arrested person has been identified as Anupam Shukla.

According to the police, the victim, a resident of Fort, had met Shukla four years ago. "Shukla had got into the habit of drinking and inflicted injuries on himself after arguing with the victim.

He also allegedly used to take money from her which she earned from teaching children," said an officer from MRA Marg police station.

He added that the victim tried to make Shukla understand but the latter did not pay heed to her requests. "Due to persistent torture from Shukla the victim told him that her family has fixed her marriage and asked him to stay away from her. Shukla, however, continued to follow her and also allegedly threatened to throw acid on her and then end his life. The victim also alleged that Shukla used to grab her hand in the mid of the road," said the officer.

As per the victim, on May 8, when she was talking to her friend on phone near her home, Shukla came and hit her. "The victim's family then approached the police. We have arrested Shukla on charges of outraging modesty of woman, stalking and criminal intimidation. He was later granted bail by the court," the officer said.
