Maharashtra CBSE students better their last year's performance

From Maharashtra region, a total of 15,071 students — 8,288 boys and 6,783 girls — appeared for the examination of which 14,087 passed the exam. The total number of boys and girls who cleared the exams are 7,641 and 6,446 respectively.

With a passing percentage of 93.47, Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) Std XII students from the state seemed to have better their last year's performance where the pass percentage was 91.04. This time again, girls have managed to outshine the boys as 95.03% girls cleared the exam as compared to 92.19% boys.

From Maharashtra region, a total of 15,071 students — 8,288 boys and 6,783 girls — appeared for the examination of which 14,087 passed the exam. The total number of boys and girls who cleared the exams are 7,641 and 6,446 respectively.

Following are a few top scorers from the city in different streams.

Science stream:

Neel Kapoor, a student of Apeejay School in Nerul, secured 98.6% in CBSE board exam this year. Talking about his achievement, he said: "I was expecting close to 95 per cent and this is an unexpected score. It all became possible due to my hard work and teachers, who helped me every time I had any query. Now, I am planning to pursue electrical or mechanical engineering and wish to get an admission in IIT-Bombay. I gave my IIT-JEE mains and now preparing for my IIT-JEE advance." He scored 100 marks each in Maths and Computer Science.

Commerce stream

Vishaka Ramesh, a student of RN Podar school in Santa Cruz, secured 97.8% in commerce stream. "I scored the maximum in accounts i.e. 100 marks. I could have scored better, but the mathematics examination was very tough and out of syllabus questions brought my score down. It was a bit tough while I was preparing for my boards as I was also preparing for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). I wish to pursue a career in law." Vishaka is expecting her CLAT results, which may come in this week.

Humanities

With a score of 94.6%, RN Podar School student Prithvi Pudhiarkar is among the top-scores in the city in Humanities with a highest score of 98 in economics. "I was a science student in Std XI. Hence, dealing with the new subjects was a little difficult. I want to pursue my career in Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) and dream to be a film-maker."

Differently-abled category

Nilabh Sarkar, studying at Andheri's Rajhans Vidyalay, is his college topper under the differently-abled category (spastic) with 87%. A student of science stream, Sarkar scored the highest in Physics with 95 marks. "I always countered problems as I could not remember things I studied and also could not sit for long hours. I also had to attend physiotherapy sessions. But I overcame all the problems and I am very happy with my result." When asked of his future plans, he said: "I am confused between engineering and research."
