Stating that the place for new international airport in Pune would be finalised in next one month, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday informed that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) director would be visiting the city next week to see three options identified for the project.

He was speaking at a roundtable with the representatives of the US corporate houses and government officials in Chakan. The roundtable was organised through the initiative of American Chamber of Commerce in India (AMCHAM India). Principal secretary to the chief minister Praveensingh Pardeshi, MIDC CEO Sanjay Sethi, deputy principal officer in the US consulate in Mumbai Deanna H Abdeen, divisional commissioner S Chokkalingam and district collector Saurabh Rao were present at the roundtable among others. The US delegates expressed confidence that American corporate houses would play an important role in Make in India as well as in Make in Maharashtra campaigns.

While speaking to US corporate world representatives, Fadnavis said that expansion of the existing Pune airport was on the cards and that the Indian Air Force had responded positively to the same.

Fadnavis told the US delegation that Pune city was being developed through its inclusion in the Smart Cities project. He assured that there would not be any problem as state-of-the-art communication systems were in place, besides availability of enough power and water. He expressed confidence that US companies would harness the opportunity to invest in the state and claim their share in creating infrastructure.

Single-point contact to curb bureaucratic red tape

Fadnavis informed that MIDC CEO Sethi would be the single-point contact for the investors for any problem. It would reduce bureaucratic red tape, if any, he added.
