The Nagpada police recently arrested a man for alleged cattle slaughter and seized meat totally weighing 180 kilograms. The seized meat, suspected to be beef, has been sent for forensic analysis.

The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Hussain Abdul Razzak Qureshi, 46, a butcher from Qureshi Nagar in Kurla.

According to the police, a raid was conducted last week at a premise at Sakhli Street in Byculla on receiving the information that cattle is being slaughtered here.

"We found a chopped head, its horns and eyes were removed. We have seized beef meat totally weighing around 180 kilograms. Civic officials took custody of the meat," said a police officer.

He said that some of the meat samples have been sent to forensic science laboratory at Kalina for detailed analysis.

"Qureshi claimed that the cattle were brought for slaughter by a Madanpura resident identified as Wasim. The possibility of an interstate cattle smuggling racket cannot be ruled out. A similar case was registered against Qureshi at the Nagpada Police Station last year. He has also admitted of having slaughtered cattle at two-three places in Nagpada in the recent past," said a police officer.
