The Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers' Organisation (MSFJCTO) protested on Friday in front of the Tahsildar's offices across the state and sent letters on their demands to all MLA's. The organisation has also decided to launch a big protest on February 2 shutting down all junior colleges, as 72,000 teachers from across the state will be participating in that protest.

The teachers are demanding the removal of 80 per cent result clause for secondary school teachers to get an increment, reinstatement of the old pension scheme for teachers who joined after November 1, 2005, and giving aid to teachers teaching in unaided institutions.

Anil Deshmukh, General Secretary, Mumbai Junior College Teachers' Union affiliated to MSFJCTO, said, "The members of our union were called by the school education minister Vinod Tawde to meet. In the discussion, we requested the minister to make monetary arrangements of 171 increased post of teachers. After 24 years of work experience, teachers deserve a promotion. The government should concede to our demands and announce it in the winter session of the Assembly. A government resolution should also be issued on our demands. We have also demanded to declare the list of those permanent unaided junior colleges who are eligible for aid."

Vinod Tawde, Maharashtra Education Minister tweeted regarding the meeting of the union members assuring resolution and stating, "Positively addressing the issue of remuneration payment of night school teachers, assured the representative of Mumbai Junior College Teachers Association quick redressal and instructed concerned officials on its resolution."
