Heatstroke claims seven lives across Maharashtra

From March till the first week of May, the state's public health department has recorded 256 heatstroke cases in different parts of the state

The number of heatstroke cases and deaths in Maharashtra have been on rise. As per the state government officials, within two months, seven people in Maharashtra died due to heatstroke till May first week. From March till the first week of May, the state's public health department has recorded 256 heatstroke cases in different parts of the state.

According to the data provided by the state's public health department, out of 256 cases around 107 cases were reported from Nagpur. Besides, 99 cases were repported from Akola, 38 from Latur, whereas Aurangabad and Nashik reported six cases each.

Increase in the temperature and overheating of the body is the main cause of heatstroke. As per the state surveillance officer, precautionary advisors have been sent to the state health centers and hospitals in the affected districts of Maharashtra. Dr Rahul Ghule, general physician, said, "On an average we get about two to three cases daily. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures along with dehydration could lead to a heat stroke. People come with complaints of dizziness and vomiting. It is advisable that people stay hydrated."

Heat waves warning between May 7-9 has been issued in different districts of the state such as Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, and Wardha.
