The Raigad police is all set to produce the accused involved in killing two watchman and stealing gold Ganesha idol from Diveagar temple in 2012 armed with the report of Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) which will nail the accused in Alibaug court next week.

The sensational double murder case had led to outrage in the State Assembly and 14 legislators were suspended for staging the protest. On March 24, 2012, thieves decamped with a Ganesha idol worth Rs 50 Lakh from Diveagar temple in Raigad and killed two watchmen.

"The incident which had taken place at night had no reliable witness but the digital evidence collected by us will lead to the conviction. The final hearing is scheduled to be conducted next week," said a senior local crime Branch officer.

Anil Paraskar, District Superintendent of Police, Raigad, said, "We are positive in getting a conviction in the case with CCTV footage report of FSL being the prime evidence."

"It is a major achievement to get a conviction in the case through digital means and we had worked on the footage so as to clear the distortion of the CCTV footage due to it being inferior quality cameras installed near the temple," said the FSL official.
