Expedite proceedings in Malegaon blast case: Bombay High Court

The Bombay High Court on Monday, asked a special court that was hearing the Malegaon blast case, 2008, to expeditiously hear the case on a day-to-day basis and not seek adjournment on October 26. The court is likely to frame charges, against accused including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakhur, Colonel Prasad Purohit and others under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

A division bench of Justice S S Shinde and Justice Ajay Gadkari had decided in favour of the plea filed by accused Sameer Kulkarni, who sought directions to hear the trial on a day-to-day basis. The bench said that Supreme Court had expedited the hearing of the case and the trial court should consider the same.

Six people were killed and nearly 100 injured when a bomb strapped to a motorcycle went off at Malegaon, a town in Nashik district of Maharashtra, on September 29, 2008.

The court is likely to frame charges, against accused including Sadhvi Pragya, Colonel Purohit & others under the UAPA on October 26
