The Thane crime branch unit 3, along with the local police, have arrested four accused from Dombivli for illegally selling leopard skin, on January 25 around 4pm. The cops have recovered skin worth Rs7.73 lakh.
Accused are identified as Sandip Dharma Shingare, 36, Mahadev Shankar Varghade, 67, Dehu Dhaka Hamber, 42 and Akash Khamdu Fage, 22.
Acting on a tip-off, the cops laid a trap when they got to know that the four will be coming near Dombivli station to sell the leopard skin at MG Road.
Parag Manere, DCP (crime), Thane, said, "A senior citizen is also an accused. The skin was covered in a plastic bag. We have also recovered mobile phones. During the investigation, we also found seven tiger nails and all the accused are from Raigad. In the market, the value of the skin will come up to Rs7.73 lakh. We have registered a case with the Vishnu Nagar police station under relevant sections."
