Maharashtra's deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had a word of advice for the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) project affected farmers, who are opposing the state government's package. Pawar appealed to the farmers to not be misled by "certain elements".

"The state government is committed to the welfare of farmers. The package offered to the airport project-affected farmers is the best deal that the government has to offer. We are here to ensure that farmers get their rightful dues. I would also like to appeal to the farmers to not fall prey to any sort of misguidance," said Pawar, during the inaugural ceremony of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's (NMMC) new building in Belapur.

The deputy chief minister, said, "The decision regarding the rehabilitation package to be given to farmers was taken after detailed discussions with representatives of all the political parties and with a consensus."
Farmers in six villages are opposing the state government's rehabilitation package. The land in these villages is significant since the main runway and core area of operations of the new airport fall in these villages.

The state government has offered 22.5% developed land with an average FSI of 2. They would get an FSI of 1.5 for 12.5% of developed land and 2.5% for the remaining 10% developed land. The affected families will also get 100 shares in companies that will develop the airport.

Pawar said, "The proposed Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) will link Navi Mumbai to the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and will improve connectivity of the city to Mumbai."

The deputy chief minister also did not forget to mention how delays have led to cost escalation. "The building (referring to the new head office) that could have been constructed at a cost of Rs90 crore, required Rs160 crore to be completed due to the delays." He underlined the need to complete projects on time so that costs are controlled.
