The city unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested senior police inspector of MHB police station red-handed, while accepting a bribe of Rs3 lakh from a studio owner. The cop had allegedly demanded Rs4 lakh for not taking action against the owner for shooting inside the illegal studio.

According to the ACB officials, accused Subhash Chavan (58) asked the complainant to submit papers regarding his studio repeatedly. "After seeing the papers, Chavan allegedly told the complainant that his studio was illegal and no shooting could be allowed to take place there. The senior PI was about to retire. May be that's why he demanded money. We, however, believe this was not the first time," said an ACB officer. He added, "Chavan later demanded Rs4 lakh from the studio owner to turn a blind eye to the entire matter."

The complainant then approached the ACB. After verifying his complaint, the ACB officials laid a trap to arrest Chavan. "As decided, the complainant went with Rs 3lakh to hand it over to Chavan and we arrested the latter while accepting it," said an ACB officer.
