Dared to enter victim's home; previously booked for molestation

A woman was bound by an attacker, who hit her with a stone and then raped her at her home in Goregaon (East) last week. The attacker was arrested on Monday after the woman complained to the police.

The Aarey Sub police said they had arrested Saddam Hussain Khan, 22, on charges of rape, assault, criminal intimidation and trespass. He will be produced before the court on Tuesday.

According to the police, Khan, who lives in the same locality, had been previously booked for molestation on a complaint by a 50-year-old woman living there, in September last year. He works as a helper.

Some residents in the area are indignant that the police did not act firmly against the man in the previous instance

On April 3. the woman was alone in her house, when Khan barged in and threatened to kill her husband if she raised an alarm. The husband, who is also employed as a helper, was away at work.

He used a dupatta to tie her arms and legs, hit her with a stone on the right foot and then raped her.

Khan left the house. The woman was in shock and gathered enough courage to tell her husband about the incident on Sunday, after which they approached the police.

"We have arrested Khan on charges of rape, assault, criminal intimidation and trespassing after preparing to cause hurt, commit assault or wrongful restraint," said Uttam More, senior inspector at Aarey Sub police station.
