The deceased women have been identified as Dhanlaxmi Lambsiya, a resident of Rajyog building on Link Road, and Amy Gohil.
Two cases of suicide were reported in Goregaon on Saturday. In the first case, a 70-year-old woman committed suicide by pouring kerosene on herself and then setting herself ablaze when she was alone at home. In the other case, a 39-year-old woman killed herself by hanging.
The deceased women have been identified as Dhanlaxmi Lambsiya, a resident of Rajyog building on Link Road, and Amy Gohil.
According to the police, Lambsiya stayed with her son, daughter-in-law and their children. On Saturday morning, her son and daughter-in-law had stepped out for some work and the children were playing outside.
When the husband and wife returned home around 1pm, they found Lambsiya engulfed in fire. They took her to a nearby hospital with the help of neighbours; she was pronounced dead before admission.
"In their statements, Lambsiya's son and his wife have told the police that the elderly woman was under stress for the past few days. We have not found any suicide note from the spot," said an officer from Goregaon police station, adding that an accidental death case has been registered in the matter.
In the other case too, Gohil allegedly committed suicide by hanging when she was alone at home. According to the police, she stayed with her husband, a tailor, and their 13-year-old daughter. "Around 9am, she hung herself from the fan using a saree. When her daughter came to know of the incident, she told her father about it," said an officer.
A police team went to the spot and took Gohil to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead before admission. "In his statement, her husband told the police that she was very worried about her daughter's studies. We have not found any suicide note from the spot and have registered an accidental death case," the officer said.
