Lava soon to start selling smartphones in Mexico

Company plans to currently has a plant in Noida and will soon come up with very large factories in a couple of other states in the country.

Indian mobile handset maker Lava International is all set to enter Mexico with its range of smartphones. The company, which made revenues of $1.2 billion for fiscal 2014-15, is already retailing its range of smartphones in the Saarc nations, and had recently added Indonesia and Myanmar to its list of international markets.

Navin Chawla, senior vice-president and product head, Lava International, told dna that the company has reached the number two position, after Samsung, in Thailand within three years of operations. "Very soon we will be launching in Mexico. Gradually, we will be making inroads in to other international markets as well," said Chawla on the sidelines of launching the company's flagship 4G ready smartphone Lava Pixel V2 in Mumbai on Monday.

Chawla said, Lava currently enjoys 10% volume market share. "At a group level we sell over three million devices while in India we are selling on an average around 2.3 million devices every month," he said.

On its manufacturing facility, Chawla said the company currently has a plant in Noida and will soon come up with very large factories in a couple of other states in the country. "Talks are progressing well with various state governments and we should be taking a final call on the same in the coming months," he said, adding that the company has definite plans to increase manufacturing capacity in India.

The company management had earlier stated about investing over Rs 2,600 crore over the next five to seven years in India towards building manufacturing capability and funding the expansion will be done through internal accruals.

The company's latest launch Lava Pixel V2, is positioned as a high-end camera phone featuring a 13 mega pixel rear camera with 1.4 micron pixel size, f2.0 aperture, 5P lens and blue glass filter with dual LED flash. The front camera is 8 MP featuring F2.4 aperture and 4P lens. The display screen is 5 inch HD IPS with Asahi Dragon-trail glass and a 64 bit MediaTek quad-core processor coupled with a 2GB DDR3 RAM, a 16 GB internal memory (expandable to 32 GB) ensures smooth functioning across various applications and functions.

The smartphone has been priced at Rs 10,399 and is currently available in ICY White and Royal Black colours across all retail stores in the country. The handsets will also start retailing online from September 15, 2015.
