Leading sports carmaker Ferrari today rolled out a new turbocharged variant of its famed California model, that dates back its origins to the 1950s, the California T, with a V8 engine at Rs 3.4 crore.

At Rs 3.5 crore, the California T is the cheapest Ferrari on sale in India.

With this, the company has marked the beginning of its second stint in the country.

Ferrari had exited India after its sole dealer Shreyans Group was found to have duped customers by taking booking tokens and not delivering cars to them and many customers complained of servicing issues.

After a brief exit, Ferrari tied up with two dealerships in the country -- Navnit Motors in Mumbai and Select Cars in Delhi.

Navnit Motors is expected to open its showroom in October at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.

India ambitions

The head of sales for Ferrari West Asia and Africa, Aurelien Sauvard said the company has received eight bookings so far for the new model here, which boasts of about 50 Ferraris on its roads.

He said the company hopes to make delivery over the next three-four months depending on the colour and extra features.

"We are looking at selling around 20 cars this year here," Sauvard said, adding two cars -- F12-Berlinetta and 458-Speciale -- were delivered last week.

Globally, Ferrari sold 7,300 units in 2014.

He also said the company is not averse to adding one more dealer in the country provided there is demand.

In India, Ferrari offers the California T, 488 GTB, Ferrari 458 Spider, Ferrari 458 Speciale, and the F12 Berlinetta.

The California T

The new California T, powered by an 8-cylinder turbocharged engine, can gain a top speed of 316 kph, and can attain 100 kph in 3.6 seconds, the company said, adding it also offers 15% more fuel efficiency.

The carmaker had launched the California model in the 1950s.

The new car offers direct-injection with a 3,855-cc turbocharged 8-cylinder engine mounted very low in the chassis in the mid-front and delivers 412KW at 7,500 rpm, or a power output of 107KW/litre, which is the highest in its segment.

The California T features a revised body design to match the new engines performance and boasts of a refined cabin and a retractable hard top. Its sleek proportions are penned by the Ferrari Styling Centre in collaboration with Pininfarina.
