Increasingly women workforce is becoming an integral part of Indian corporate world. However, a lot needs to be done to promote woman entrepreneurship and employability, according to the Bombay Chamber of Commerce (BCC) which launched its woman’s wing FemPower last week.

FemPower will address issues related to entrepreneurship development, knowledge sharing, financial and legal independence, career and personal growth at workplace  and concerns regarding work-life balance, safety and security and overall professional development of working women.

BCC intends to provide networking, mentorship and advocacy through its group of dynamic women across industries. The group already has close to 100 members. It intends to attract corporate women, entrepreneurs, professionals, women in government.

Neera Saggi, BCC’s first woman president and chairperson of FemPower, said some women who move out of the workforce in their thirties never to return to employment due to absence of an enabling environment.

“We will approach corporates, conduct seminars to create enabling environment for woman workforce so that they find enough facilities and opportunities to grow even in their second innings,” Saggi said.

Veena Mankar, MD, Swadhaar Financial Services and one of the speakers at the launch of FemPower, sid BCC should take initiatives to connect women with the corporate world to bring about a change in attitudes and formal policies.
