Always visualised yourself in a great Bollywood romance? Or wanted to be a on a film’s poster?

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t taken any acting lessons or don’t have an iota of talent to be part of the starry tinsel world. You can still be a hero and have a poster of yours posing in a scene from a film of your choice.

Arvind Chudasama is here to give you your moment of glory. An animator by profession, he has been painting and digitally morphing photos and placing it on movie posters for the last two years. “It is a hobby which came into professional use when I was designing a poster for a yet to be released film. I did it by hand, using coloured pencil and thought of experimenting similarly with different film posters,” says Chudasama.

He started by putting his own photos on his favourite movie posters like Sarkar, Guru, Munna Bhai MBBS and later graduated to starring his friends in posters of their choice.

“My personal favourite is the one I made for a friend for his parent’s anniversary. The movie was Kabhi Kabhi and I morphed his parent’s photos as the leading stars on the poster. They were the lead stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rakhi for that day,” says Chudasama.

Though he has done quite a few posters, it’s the time constraint which hinders him from taking bulk projects. “Sometimes, people want these posters to be finished in a specific day and since I work, it gets difficult at times. Also, putting photos of too many people on one poster is quite a task and the picture quality also determines if I can take up that project or not,” he states. Though the posters are usually a mix of paint job and digital modification, it still takes at least two to three full days to complete the poster. “Those that require drawing and hand painting is more time consuming and difficult,” says Chudasama.

From college students, die-hard fans of yesteryear cinema to foreigners awestruck by Indian films, he has everyone knocking at his door. His posters cost anything between Rs8,000 to Rs12,000, depending on the size, characters and the amount of morphing that is required. “College girls ask me to make posters featuring them with their boy friends. Especially DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge) which has many takers,” he adds.

He remembers making a poster for an 80-year-old woman who was a die-hard fan of Shammi Kapoor. She had her picture along with Shammi Kapoor’s on a movie poster from an old film.

“Movie posters have a charm of their own. They look like a painting when you hang it on the wall,” signs off Chudasama.
