On the occasion of World Interiors Day celebrated on May 29 May every year, the Indian Institute of Interior Design (IIID), Ahmedabad chapter, got an opportunity to celebrate the event locally at the Ahmedabad Textile Mills' Association (ATMA) house on Saturday in the city. The event featured a discussion on the topic, 'Art Matters,' in the presence of eminent interior designers.

The seminar focused on several issues relating to art, including different perspectives in the presence of well-known city artists and art patrons including architect and interior designer Hiren Patel, artists Amit Ambalal and Vrindavan Solanki, founder of Archer Art Gallery, Anil Relia, promoter of Lemon Grasshopper, Kanjan Dalal, and promoter of Mantra Art Gallery, Nayna Soparkar.

In a debate relating to use of art in the public spaces, there was strong opinion from the artists and designers that public spaces should facilitate display of art works.

Architect and interior designer Chirashree Thakkar who is the chairperson of IIID Ahmedabad, said, "Since ages, art, in all its visual forms & splendour, has been innovatively used in all design works, particularly so in interior design. Appropriately chosen art works complement and enhance the visual character of interior spaces. It has also been used, at times by designers, to reflect the owner's personality and the mood of the space. With rapidly increasing costs of art works, choosing appropriate art also involves predicting true value of the work. This is where the role of art galleries becomes crucial. Designers also need to spread & elevate art awareness through use of unknown or
    upcoming artists."
