Talk show titan Oprah Winfrey revealed in an interview, that she almost gave up her plans to launch her independent network, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). “All the bells went off. This is why I lived in fear about this network. I kept thinking I have to repeat the 25 year phenomenon of the Oprah show,” Winfrey told the
Fortune magazine. But the star, adamant on realising her dreams, has conquered the fear. “My fear about, ‘will the people really follow me? I’m past that,” she added.

Even though fear is an intrinsic part of our lives, it can often come in the way of our dreams. Citing Oprah’s case, psychologist Seema Hingorrany says, “Some people always carry the fear of failing. We call this ‘obsessive rumination’. They often wonder, ‘If I do this I won’t be successful’ and hence can never live a carefree life.”

Actor Aarti Chhabria describes how she overcame her ultimate fear of putting on weight. “I thought that I would never be able to lose that weight. But I jumped  headlong into the challenge. Now I have been working with a trainer. I confronted my worst fear and conquered it!”

TV actor Mann Sirohi talks about his fear of failure. “I try and keep myself motivated, tell myself that every struggle, every disappointment is worth it because this is what I want to do in life and that is all that matters,” he says.
