I am a 40-year-old woman. I have noticed my skin feels quite tight and flaky during the past two months. I already use a good moisturiser. Are there any changes I should make in my diet?
— Niharika

Winter does dry the skin and the first item on the list to tick is nourishment. There is so much information easily available to everyone on social media, in magazines, from friends. Make sure that:

  • Some fat is part of your daily intake in the form of pure ghee, butter or olive oil, etc.

  • Consume plenty vegetables of all colours, proteins and some carbs.

  • Fruits, plenty of water, coconut water and green as well as red tea will keep you hydrated.

  • Fresh air, walks, exercise, yoga are also recommended.

My skin looks tired and dehydrated during the Winter months. I have used some masks at home but the results aren’t very visible. Any treatments that you recommend to keep my skin looking radiant?
— Lekha

It’s important to make time for some professional care.

Those with normal to dry skin should go for good hydrating facials or hydrating treatments on a regular basis. Immediate results will then be visible. Those who have problematic skin, prone to breakouts and blockages, should be careful and tread cautiously. Such skin can also get dehydrated. Non-oily products which are gel-based and light are the answer together with some lymphatic drainage to rid the skin of toxins.

Should I change my skin care routine with the change in weather? Any products that you recommend?
— Menka

Daily home care is a must for clear, luminous skin. There is no getting away from it. It’s like brushing your teeth twice daily for maintaining healthy teeth. For normal to dry skin, first use a hydrating cleanser, a hydrating toner, and a good hyaluronic serum, which can be used morning as well as night. During the day it can be followed by a good sunscreen SPF 30. If the skin is very dry then use a day cream followed by the sunscreen. At night, a good night cream or anti-ageing cream depending on the age factor and condition of the skin is a must.

For oily/problematic skin, hydration is necessary too. Gel-based, non-oily, light products would be helpful with the skin getting hydration but no fear of blockages or irritation.

My skin has become a little dull recently. Any quick tips to add that luminous glow?
— Dhara

For an instant glow, there is always make-up. Depending on one’s skin type, age, occasion, one can choose to apply the whole gamut of moisturiser, primer, foundation, concealer (if required), loose powder and blush. To top it off, an illuminator, or highlighter, can give that glow we all love.
