This season, Diwali card parties are all about moody pastels and luscious jewel tones. Look no further than Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla’s tone-on-tone embroidered saris and Abraham & Thakore’s brocade pantsuits. Falguni and Shane Peacock’s feathered pieces will make you own every party you walk into and Rimzim Dadu’s chiffon cord jackets are a sure-shot winner. One couldn’t possibly go wrong in Masaba’s Chanderi beauties and Jade’s handcrafted lehenga skirts accented with the intricate ek taar embroidery technique, which took six months to complete. We got experts to share their take on the new festive essentials this season...

MIX FLORALS AND STRIPES

Designer Arpita Mehta’s deck chair striped numbers have emerged a party favourite seen on the likes of Shilpa Shetty Kundra. “Pastels are a classic staple and timeless enough for you to wear them for years. Florals come into the mix as the undeniable trend this wedding season: glam it up or tone it down, rock the pastels with your own style.  The festive season is all about opting for fuss-free fun with this millennial-approved hue. The pastel lehengas in the collection are a no-brainer for anyone looking to embrace their desiness with a modern twist,” she says.

BE A MIXOLOGIST

It’s all about striking the right balance — Indian with Western, light-weight with fully-embellished, minimal with maximal and functional with avant-garde. Designer Falguni Peacock of the label Falguni and Shane Peacock suggests, “Everyone loves to dress up in light lehengas, but it’s about the off-kilter pairing which will make a world of sartorial difference. Perhaps a classic shirt teamed with an embroidered skirt works well or a feathered shrug layered over an anarkali.”

It’s the best way to stand out in a room full of head-to-toe runway looks. Of course, accessorising is key, so invest in one statement piece and let it be the focal point.”

INVEST IN HASSLE-FREE CLOTHING

Jade by Monica and Karishma has brought out a line of super-light tulle pieces, which have placement-oriented embroidery painstakingly. Either pick from the label’s neutral palette with their signature jaal embellishments or invest in Monisha Jaising’s timeless sari gowns, which never fail to make the right statement. Designer Aniket Satam emphasises on the comfort factor. “One has to be super comfy in one’s skin in times of the hassle-free sari gowns. For guys, it’s no longer plain boring kurta, thanks to the Bollywood brigade, men are experimenting with new cuts, silhouettes and drapes in a spectrum of jewel tones, which are in this festive season,” says Aniket.
