Rajasthan: Monsoon’s first phase peters out

Bikaner, Bharatpur divisions have recorded more than normal rainfall this year, in comparison to last year

The first phase of this monsoon season is considered to be over in Rajasthan as almost all parts of the state continue to observe almost dry conditions for the last one week. At the end of the first phase of the onset of monsoon, Bikaner and Bharatpur divisions have recorded more than normal rainfall this year, in comparison with the same period last year. Jodhpur and Ajmer divisions, on the other hand, have recorded less rainfall comparatively.

Monsoon, for many days soon after its onset this year, remained slow in Bikaner and Bharatpur divisions, but before shifting towards neighbouring states in the east, almost all districts of these two divisions observed very good spells of rain. As per water resources department, so far Bikaner division has recorded 183 mm of rainfall which is 40 per cent more than the normal rains at 129.9 mm in the division. 

Last year the division had recorded 136.2 mm of rainfall till the end of first phase of monsoon onset. Bharatpur division, similarly, received 385.9 mm of rainfall against the normal rainfall of 267.5 mm. Comparing with last year, division has received 44.3 per cent more rainfall so far.

Jaipur division has recorded rainfall to the tune of 400.9 mm this year which is 14.4 per cent more than the 320.2 mm of rainfall recorded last year till the end of first phase of onset of monsoon. The average rainfall during the period for the division is 242.2 mm. Compared to last year, till the end of first phase, Kota division has recorded 16.2 percent more rainfall.

Jodhpur is one division which recorded below normal rainfall so far. The average normal rainfall for the division is 191.1 mm against which 141.4 mm, minus 26.3 per cent, rainfall has been recorded here. Last year the division recorded 601 mm of rainfall during the same time. In Ajmer division only 232.7 mm of rainfall has been recorded which is less than the average normal rainfall of 295.4 mm.

Wet Jaipur

The Jaipur division has recorded rainfall to the tune of 400.9 mm this year which is 14.4 per cent more than the 320.2 mm of rainfall recorded last year till the end of first phase of onset of monsoon. The average rainfall during the period for the division is 242.2 mm.
