Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Monday launched Annapurna Milk Scheme across the state, an Operation Flood of sorts, for making children of the state healthy. The CM flagged off the milk scheme by offering the first glass of hot milk to school girls. On the occasion she said that being a mother she knows the happiness of seeing one’s child healthy.

To launch this ambitious scheme, Raje visited government higher secondary school in Dehmikalan (Bagru) on Monday morning. She highlighted the contribution of the toil and efforts which the parents make to ensure their children get sufficient nutrients and added that now parents of about 62 lakh students studying in government schools will not have to worry with Annapurna Milk Scheme in place.

CM Raje asked the officials to give priority to milk producers’ committees run by women to ensure unhindered supply of milk under the scheme and added that these women, being mothers themselves, will not compromise with the quality of the milk.

Raje said that by adding milk in the mid-day meal will help improve the nutrition level of children and it will also curb the problem of dropouts and trigger increase in higher enrollment. Raje also talked about various interventions and innovations done in the education sector and said that scores of vacant posts of school teachers had been filled and model schools have been established at all panchayat samitis.

In the milk scheme children of upto class 5 will get 150 millilitres of fresh, pure and nutritious hot milk thrice every week and those in class 6 to 8 will get 200 millilitres.

Cong MLA stirs sugar

With Annapurna Milk Scheme having drawn criticism for providing milk without sugar, Congress MLA from Bhilwara’s Jahazpur Dhiraj Gurjar has come forward to provide each school of his constituency with sugar.
He tweeted that he will shell out money from his salary for the same. “In my constituency no student will drink plain milk without sugar,” he said in a video.
