TIME will tell how much Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi, an underdog considered in the inner party circle, has succeeded in establishing himself as a Jat leader of the Western Rajasthan. Albeit, it can be comfortably said that by organising a massive Mahasankalp rally for the party president Rahul Gandhi, he helped Rahul to excel over his counterpart Amit Shah in the BJP.
On October 4, BJP SC Morcha had organised Shah’s rally in Bikaner SP Medical College ground where Rahul’s rally was organised on Wednesday. Shah’s rally was aimed to target SC voters, which are dominant in certain areas of the division. Though, poor attendance of crowd, limited to few thousands only, angered Shah which gave Congress an opportunity to question Shah’s popularity.
On the same ground, Dudi organised Mahasankalp rally setting a target of 5 lakh gathering. Dudi camped for the rally for over 20 days and his teams mobilized workers, farmers visiting the villages scattered in this district of the Western Rajasthan. When the D-Day arrived, the gathering was definitely not 5 lakh, but it was a massive rally where the crowd was found standing on roads out of the ground to listen to Rahul. It won’t be wrong to say that it was the biggest rally of Rahul Gandhi on the place where Shah had his least audience.
Rahul was also mesmerized when he saw the huge gathering and called it the mood of the state while PCC chief Sachin Pilot advised CM Vasundhara Raje to note the strength of the rally. “For many days, Raje was taking out Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra on the bus. Now, compare this rally with her. She must watch this rally from a window of her palace to know with whom the public is,” said Pilot.
On the other hand, an overwhelmed Dudi called the rally a message to the people of the state. “This rally is an indication. We have to strengthen Rahul Ji’s hands. In Rajasthan, the farmers are in distress and youths are wandering on roads for employment. We have to make a Congress government in 2019 with thumb majority,” said Dudi.
By organising a massive rally, the Congress has proved its strong base in the area and also dropped a message for the BSP, which parted away from a pre-poll alliance with the Congress recently. Bikaner division has two Lok Sabha seats- Sri Ganganagar and Bikaner and 5 assembly constituencies reserved for the scheduled castes. Mayawati’s party wields a strong base in Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh districts of the division.
