The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation looks for a feedback from its commuters and those residing near metro stations along the operational route from Chandpole to Mansarovar. The corporation has sought proposals from eligible agencies to conduct ‘Customer Satisfaction and Performance Survey’. “To provide inputs for improvement in ridership is a key objective of the survey as it is also intended to seek the additional facilities required,” says a senior JMRC officer.

The rail corporation has recently took series of measures from increasing the frequency and dropping peak hour charges in order to improve the dwindling ridership. These were made on the basis on feedback received by the metro operation wing from the commuters. The new survey is proposed to cover atleast 250 residents near each of the metro stations along with those already commuting through the metro.

The first phase of Jaipur metro is operating on less than 10 per cent of its planned ridership targets. An ambiguity has prevailed over the potential ridership from the route as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has apparently miscalculated the population estimates of Jaipur.

The DMRC in its initial detailed project report for the Jaipur metro has estimated the population of Jaipur to cross five million by 2020. The Jaipur metro officials, however, acknowledge that the estimates have went wrong and it would only be by 2031 that city will cross the 5 million population mark.

Even as the proposed survey is not envisaged as a detailed revision of the phase 1, it is intended to provide a baseline to evaluate impact on ridership by future initiatives made by metro.

It will also provide a basemap of ancillary services needed to increase connectivity to metro stations. JMRC is keen to improve on the figures as it deliberates on implementation plan of the second phase.
