Jaipur Discom has now taken the task of replacing all the defective meters at the earliest. It will start a drive between May 25 and 31 in which all the defective meters will be changed. Feeder in charges have been given the responsibility for this.

Officials informed that there are 5,000 feeder in charges in Jaipur Discom and therefore, if a feeder in charge changes 5 defective meters every day, then in a week’s time all the defective single phase meters can be changed.

After this task, the changing of three phase meters will be taken up in June. The task has been taken so that the revenue of Jaipur Discom increases. In case of defective meters, the billing is done on the basis of average consumption. The consumer doesn’t get the bill on the actual consumption made and therefore pays less to the electricity company. The disadvantage to the consumer is that in case his consumption is less, he still gets the average bill. The idea is to rectify the meters so that the exact billing can be done by discom staff.

A meeting regarding this was also held recently, in which the managing director of Jaipur Discom R G Gupta stated that if the feeder in charges can get meter reading of 2 lakh meters in one day, then twenty thousand defective meters can be replaced in a single day.

Previously, RERC has pointed over the defective meter of all the three electricity companies several times. However, the work has remained very slow. Most of the consumer complaints are related to bills and thus, most of the times points out to incorrect meters. Discom officials informed that by replacing defective meters, while the revenue can be increased, at the same time, the grievances of consumers will also reduce.
