Def min rejects shortage report

Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman has rejected reports about shortage of ammunition and its quality at Uttarlai air base.

She was reacting to reports published a few days ago that indigenous cannonballs exploded in the barrel of US-made Howitzer during an exercise at the Pokhran firing range. However, this is not the first time when such incident had happened.

There have been two such incidents in the last one and a half years at the firing range of BSF located at Kishangarh in Jaisalmer, when  cannonballs exploded at the time of loading them onto a cannon.  Two BSF men were killed and about 10 were injured.
