A verbal spat between a husband and wife in Jaipur got blown out of proportion to such an extent that the Mumbai Police, the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Rajasthan Police and the Jaipur Commissionerate found themselves chasing what they believed to be a matter of internal security. The wife left home after the fight and the husband, filled with rage, called up a senior cop  - an additional commissioner - of the Mumbai police and bad-mouthed and threatened him. The cop recovered details of the phone number and approached the Jaipur police after which the man was arrested on Thursday after an investigation. Interestingly, the husband did not make a random call. He had searched for the Mumbai cop’s number online and then selectively abused him using a Sim card registered in his wife’s name.

The arrested man has been identified as 30-year-old Murtaza, a resident of Jalupura area of Jaipur. “Murtaza has been married for several years. However, off late, the husband and wife started quarrelling often. Recently, the couple quarreled over some domestic issue following which his wife left the house. She moved in with a few female friends and lived with them for several days when eventually Murtaza realised his mistake and tried to get his wife back to their home. However, the woman was not keen on returning home,” officials said.

Murtaza reportedly tried several times to mend relations with his wife but the woman kept declining him. That’s when Murtaza decided to teach his wife a lesson. “The day he hatched the plan to frame his wife, Murtaza had consumed liquor and was in inebriated condition when he thought of a plan. He went online and searched for the phone numbers of senior police officials of Mumbai police. Randomly, he selected the number of additional commissioner Pratap Diwaghkar and called the cop on the numbers provided. However, he did not use his personal number, but a separate sim card that had been issued in his wife’s name,” officials said.

His call was answered. “The accused issued threats to the additional commissioner. As soon as Murtaza disconnected the call, he switched off the mobile phone,” officials said. Thinking that his plan was effective and wife would be approached by the cops, Murtza laid low after that little realizing what was in store for him.

“The Mumbai police immediately started collecting details about the number from which the call was made. Cops learnt that the number was registered in Jaipur and the call was also made from Jaipur. Immediately, the Jaipur police was contacted and the message was passed onto the ATS to initiate an investigation. Within a record time, the ATS recovered the details.

The ATS handed him over to the Jalupura police that falls under the Jaipur Commissionerate.

Hatching plan

The husband went online and searched for the phone numbers of senior police officials of Mumbai police. Randomly, he selected the number of additional commissioner Pratap Diwaghkar and called the cop on the numbers provided.
