Chief justice bench of Gujarat high court on Thursday issued notice to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on the issue of dumping garbage in residential area near Sola overbridge, SG Highway. The development comes after a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the same matter.
Resident of Shyam Residency near Sola overbridge, Harshad Jani's PIL contended that AMC was dumping hazardous waste at a common plot near Bandhan party plot in the area. Residents in the area thereby face cleanliness, stench and health troubles due to regular large-scale dumping of garbage.
Jani further submitted that despite various complaints before several forums including AMC, the problem was not resolved. Due to unhygienic conditions created by the mess, the residents in the area are also threatened from vector-borne diseases like malaria and falciparum.
