MICA organises short film competition addressing social issues

MICA kick-started their three-day festival 'It's all GREEK to me' yesterday with film screening themed on social issues. The Oracle of Apollo was a short film competition based on social issues like honour killing, hunger, loneliness and rape.

"Our purpose through such a competition was to achieve dual goals of entertainment and induce social change amongst youngsters of our age group. We might not have been up to the mark, but we know we made a difference by making people think about these topics," Surabhi Suri head of media marketing for MICA club Sankalp, said.

Three teams, IIM-Kozhikode, Faculty of Management Studies from New Delhi and MICA showcased their films, after getting short-listed in initial judging rounds.

The Loner, a film based on TS Elliot's Hollow Man bagged the first place. Directed by MICA students Ravikant Kisana, Gaurav Puri and French exchange student, Antoine Perrin, the movie captured the protagonist, played by Neelanjan Chatterjee, going through motions of life without a sense of meaning, while in the pursuit of happiness.

Commenting on the choice of subject, Puri said, "From insecurities about looks to secret crushes or loves or lusts and banality of companionship of colleagues and comrades to the pressures of a career and family, all are an integral part of our lives. We too sometimes end up grasping emptiness in our lives."
