Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan described Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi as a 'celestial phenomenon' to have happened to the world of Hindustani classical music.
Expressing grief over the demise of the legendary vocalist, the governor said, "It was indeed the collective good fortune of the present generation and the recent past generations that they lived in the same era in which Pt. Bhimsen lived and sung. He was the undisputed emperor of the Hindustani Classical Music and of the Kirana Gharana, and the world of music will never be the same again."
"Pt. Bhimsen Joshi was an innovator and a pioneer. The efforts he put in to attain supreme command over the notes, the depth of his voice and his style of rendition of the 'Khyal' made him immensely popular among the connoisseurs of classical music across the continent," the governor said.
