Saurashtra Rachnatmak Sammitti (SRS) president Devendra Desai on Wednesday urged State and Central governments to extend their support to increase selling of Khadi in Gujarat which is gradually decreasing.

Talking to mediapersons here while announcing various rebate schemes for campaigning of  Khadi selling to mark "Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, Devendra Desai said Khadi selling in the state is decreasing because the State and Central governments do not announce rebate schemes in time which affecting the business. The State government does not announce rebate on Khadi made by other states which is affecting khadi made by Gujarat in other states.

"I have personally requested chief minister Narendra Modi to announce rebate on Khadi made by other states but the State government has not taken any interest to announce rebate on that khadi," Desai alleged.

He also stressed the need that the government sectors should purchase Khadi and said the government consumption was seven to eight per cent which has now decreased to 3 to 4 per cent.

Saurshtra Rachnatmak Sammitti has announced various rebate schemes on Khadi for 108 days from October 2nd to mark Gandhiji's birth anniversary.  The Samiti has given jobs to over one thousand people and had a production of 5.5 crore of Khadi while selling revenue was about Rs3.45 crore, Desai said.
