India and China are eager to share ideas to improve forest cover. The new understanding came after a Chinese delegation told the government that cooperation on environment and climate change had been the most successful exchange between the two countries.
India is eager to learn from China how it plans to go about expanding its forest cover by 40 million hectares in the next few years. In April, India is sending a team which includes the environment minister to learn more about forest research, forest management and survey.
“China has said it would create 40 million hectares of forests in the next decade. This works out to 4 million hectares per year. We would like to know what steps China is taking to do this,” environment minister Jairam Ramesh said.
