A day after jail authorities claimed to have recovered a mobile phone from her prison cell, Nalini Murugan, life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, on Wednesday charged them with falsely implicating her.

“The jail superintendent and a team of jail officials visited her cell at 6am on Tuesday and planted the mobile.

Later, they claimed to have recovered it from her possession,” Nalini’s lawyer P Pugalenthi said after meeting his client at the Vellore central prison.

On Tuesday, the jail authorities accused Nalini of using a phone and flushing it down the toilet during a routine check of her cell.

According to Pugalenthi, Nalini has lodged a complaint of harassment with the authorities against the jail officials.

Tamil Nadu’s law minister Durai Murugan told the Tamil Nadu assembly that the mobile has been sent to an expert for analysis. “We are not sure whether the mobile is in working condition. We have sent it for analysis and only after we get a report, will we get a clear picture,” Murugan told the state assembly.

The jail authorities have also recovered two SIM cards from Nalini.
