Gujarat's rainfall still less than 50% of average

As against average rainfall of 914 mm rainfall between 2001 and 2010, the state received 446 mm of rainfall as of August 12, i.e. 49% of the average.

The state has received widespread rainfall over the last three to four days, but the total rainfall received so far is still less than 50% of the average rainfall of last ten years, Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) data shows.

However, with the monsoon forecasted to remain active in Gujarat in August, it is expected that monsoon in the state will be more or less normal.

As against average rainfall of 914 mm rainfall between 2001 and 2010, the state has received 446 mm of rainfall as of August 12, i.e. 49% of the average.

South Gujarat, which is known for heavy rainfall has received the lowest rainfall in the state this season so far. South Gujarat's average rainfall in the last ten years was 1,493 mm, while it has received only 627 mm as of August 12. Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Bharuch and Narmada districts have all received deficient rainfall.

Kutch region has received 254 mm rains or 55% of the 10-years' average rainfall of 458 mm. The region had recorded only around 100 mm rains till last week, but the past few days have brought heavy rains. As against an average of 756 mm in last 10 years, north Gujarat has received 393 mm or 52% rainfall so far.

Gandhinagar has also received deficient rains so far.

Similarly, central Gujarat has received only 43% rainfall (367 mm as against 846 mm) with Vadodara, Anand, Kheda, Panchmahals and Dahod receiving deficient rains. Saurashtra has received more than 60% of the average rainfall, the highest in the state.

Saurashtra's average rainfall was 791 mm in last 10 years, while it has received 475 mm so far. Rajkot, Surendranagar and Amreli have received excess rains, while other districts in the region have received normal rains.
