Girl shot dead in suspected case of honour killing in Muzaffarnagar

In a case of suspected honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her family members after she eloped with her lover.

Deputy superintendent of police Radhal Singh said Sazu was shot dead by her family members at Ramchar village in Baghpat district yesterday when she returned home after having eloped with a boy.

He said a case of murder has been registered by the police against six of the girl's family members and her father Yashpal and uncle Sudhir have been arrested.

He said the girl was shot dead and her body cremated soon after without informing the police, adding police have recovered the pistol used in the crime and ashes of the cremated body.

The girl's family members had opposed her relationship with a boy with whom she had eloped and then returned home.

Security has been tightened in the area fearing any incident of violence.
