Holding that the party fared poorly in Bihar assembly elections because of "sharp division" in "secular and social justice" votes, the RJD today decided that it would continue to further analyse the reasons to evolve strategy for strengthening the organisation.

Talking to reporters on conclusion of the two-day 'chintan baithak (brainstorming session)' of RJD, state RJD chief Ramchandra Purve and secretary general Ramkripal Yadav said the meeting was of the view that "sharp division" in votes of secular and social justice led to the RJD-LJP alliance tasting the worst electoral reverses.

"Our alliance failed to fare well despite the fact that it polled 74 lakh votes, while the NDA has landslide victory pocketing 39% votes," Yadav said.

Stating that it reflected that 61% people voted against the NDA in Bihar, Purve said the RJD felt that its support base had remained intact but it lost because of the division of votes.

"Manoeuvring in counting of votes also led to the RJD's failure in elections," Purve alleged that certain doubts had been expressed about the functioning and tempering of EVMs.

He said the Election Commission had called a meeting of experts in New Delhi to go into the complaints of "tampering of EVMs."

Yadav, later said, that the party had accepted the defeat with humility and would take steps for revitalising the party and further strengthening the organisation.

Purve said more than 1500 party activists, including 168 candidates, participated in the two-day brainstorming session.

Yadav said the RJD supremo had promised that he would suitably reward the party activists from extremely backward and deprived sections of the society with party posts.

He said the party would continue to analyse the the election results and its leaders would meet once again on January 24 for the purpose.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad was also present during today's meeting.
