Dengue death toll in Bihar at 6, 518 others test positive

Six people have died so far due to the outbreak of dengue in Munger district of Bihar, while 518 others have tested positive, official sources said today.

Unofficial sources have, however, claimed that the number of casualties due to suspected mosquito-bred fever stands at 27.

As many as 518 out of 1361 people diagnosed for symptoms of the dengue fever have tested positive, officials said.

Hospital authorities are hamstrung in providing specialised treatment to the affected due to the unavailability of kits for transfusing platelets to patients, civil surgeon Mukesh Kumar complained.

Dr Arvind Kumar, who is supervising the dengue awareness campaign, expressed hope that the disease will be eliminated automatically soon as the mosquitoes responsible for outbreak of the fever generally slip into hibernation around this period of the year.

Meanwhile, district magistrate Abhijit Kumar Sinha has ordered the municipal authorities to carry out fogging in the town in order to keep the dengue at bay.
