NEW DELHI: Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi's 19-year-old daughter Sreeja, who has secured police protection after a run-away marriage, on Tuesday said she could not rely on media reports that her father had accepted their union and was waiting for her family to get in touch with her.
"This has been happening for a long time. But none of the family members have got in touch with me," she said.
Sreeja, who had eloped and married engineering graduate Sirish (22), who is the son of a reputed lawyer, last week and knocked at the doors of the Delhi High Court yesterday seeking police protection, said her family has the contact numbers of her lawyers but have not got in touch with her.
"My father has not spoken to me after the marriage," she said.
"I want to tell my father not to worry about my future. I want to reassure him that I am safe, that I have taken a judicious decision. I want to tell him that he will not have
any regrets about the decision I have taken," she said.
Sreeja said she wanted to go back home to Hyderabad, but on the condition that her family and that of her husband should first meet.
"I want to go back, but first I want the two families to meet, to unite and accept the marriage," said the star's daughter.
Refusing to be drawn into a detailed conversation, Sreeja only said that while she would not like to go through the marriage rituals again for the two families, she would be very happy if a reception or a public meeting where the two families would acknowledge and accept their marriage could be organised.
The couple married against Chiranjeevi's wishes last Wednesday and then dramatically resurfaced in the Capital on Monday to allege there was a threat from the star's family.
The Delhi High Court has ordered police protection to the couple and gave the star time till next Monday to respond to the allegations.
Chiranjeevi is reported to have said that he was initially distraught about the marriage but now the couple has his blessings.
Sreeja's uncle and Chiranjeevi's younger brother Pavan Kalyan has said the couple faced no threat from her family.
